Continuing his sermon series regarding the Holy Spirit, minister Don McLaughlin tells listeners that there are two ways in which the word “gift” applies to the Holy Spirit. As presented in Acts 2:38, we receive the Holy Spirit – God’s very presence – to indwell us. This is a promised gift for those who repent of their sins and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Beyond this life-changing promise, the Holy Spirit gives its own gifts to Christians, and Don helps listeners discern the true gifts from worldly versions. Thus we learn that the Holy Spirit is both the gift and the gift giver.
As we enter the Christmas season, listeners will be awed by the extravagant nature of God’s love for us manifest through the Holy Spirit. Often it is more than we recognize or even realize.
